Description
Line 1 of the Naples subway, built in several stages, has the merit of having upgraded some extremely squalid areas of the city thanks to its Art Stations.
Internationally-renowned architects were involved in this project and their creativity and rationality have transformed a drab, frenetic location such as an underground station into an art gallery which people willingly “go down into”.
The Naples metro realization also represented a challenge as regards construction given that it stretches across a geologically and archaeologically difficult area. The operating route, from Piscinola to Dante, is 13 km long with 14 stations. The Dante-Centro Direzionale stretch is under construction. From March 2011 a first functional route is operating with a shuttle service between Dante Station and University Station.
The other stations are being opened. With regard to the Centro Direzionale-Capodichino section, design is completed and construction is waiting for funding to start. Astaldi is also involved in the construction of the Mergellina-Municipio section of the Line 6.
