Description
The contract to construct the Huanza Hydroelectric Plant, signed in Peru in 2009, started as a private initiative of the Peruvian mining group, Minera Buenaventura, one of the major gold producers at a national level. The project worth 116 million dollars (Astaldi, the project leader, holds a 60% stake).
The project involved the construction of civil works for a hydroelectric plant with 92MW of installed capacity, construction of a 10 km tunnel, a switchyard and a 2.8 km penstock which will bring water from the Rio Pallaca to two Pelton turbines with a 600m head.
The plant was built at an altitude of 4,060m, representing a challenging condition in terms of execution, and also foresaw the construction of a 34,000 cubic meters dam in RCC (Roller Compacted Concrete) measuring 40 metres in height.
